Bed Sheets FAQs

Although it may not seem like a big deal, buying new bed sheets often causes more stress than necessary. Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions about sheets:

What is pocket depth?
Pocket depth is the length of the corner seam on a fitted sheet. Pocket depth should be 1-3 inches larger than the depth of the mattress. It includes any fabric that is able to fold under the mattress.

How much will my sheets shrink in the wash?
Sheets can shrink up to 7% after the first wash. However, our sheets are pre-shrunk 100-cotton percale that will only shrink 1-2%. Regardless, some shrinkage should always be expected.

What is the best thread count?
Higher thread count does not always mean a better quality sheet. In fact, the most commonly recommended range is between 200 and 400. When sheets used to be woven on looms, 400 was the most threads that could be accommodated. Higher thread counts often mean much thinner, less-wound thread is being used.

How often should I wash my sheets?
Bed sheets should be washed every 2 weeks or sooner if needed. In order to reduce wear and wrinkling, sheets should be washed alone.

How do I wash my sheets?
Washing sheets is not much different than doing regular laundry. Separate lights and darks and always read the wash instructions on the sheets. Typically a warm water temperature is the best, but if your sheets are especially dirty, hot water can be used.

Can I dry my sheets?
Yes! Sheets can be machine-dried on a low heat setting, and should only be in the dryer as long as necessary. Similar to washing, do not dry sheets with other bulky items such as towels. Air drying is always a good option if you have the time and space. Remember to fold the sheets right after drying in order to eliminate the need for drying.
