QuickZip Sheet Company Wins $250,000 at Capital Championship

DENVER, (June 14, 2016) QuickZip, a Colorado, women-owned company won the Capital Championship, a nationwide entrepreneur competition. QuickZip competed against nine other finalists in Los Angeles to win $250,000. The tournament, sponsored by Blue Ocean Enterprises and OtterBox, strengthens the startup community by offering exposure, networking, mentorship, and cash to emerging entrepreneurs.

QuickZip won the grand prize for its reinvented fitted sheet, which stays securely on the mattress and makes changing and folding sheets quick and easy. The company’s revolutionary improvements to a product consumers use every day, and its wide market utility, helped QuickZip rise to the top.  QuickZip is a patented two-piece fitted sheet with a base that stays on the mattress and a sheet that zips off and on in seconds. The company started with crib sheets and now offers sheets for all bed sizes.

“We are one step closer to putting QuickZip on every bed in America,” said Elizabeth Sopher, founder and CEO of QuickZip. “We are so excited to have the resources we need now to reach so many more customers than we could before. This is just the beginning!”

The company plans to use its prize money to accelerate its growth. They look to increase market share within the juvenile market, introduce QuickZip to new segments, and to develop new products such as attachable covers for RV beds and bunks and mattress protection for incontinence.

Founder Elizabeth Sopher was inspired to invent the zip-on sheet after struggling to change her newborn daughter’s crib sheets. In 2014, Sopher teamed up with Caroline Portis, former CFO of The Boppy Company, to grow the business. Today, QuickZip’s full product line is available on the company’s website and Amazon.com as well as in select retail stores.

“This is a well deserved win for QuickZip as they faced incredible competition from numerous startup companies across the country,” said David Brey, executive director of Capital Championship. “We saw tremendous presentations throughout the tournament and are thrilled for QuickZip. We appreciate the work they put into their company and hope this new cash infusion and mentorship helps move them to the next level, continuing the company’s trajectory to success.”

Finalists converged at the RECESS Field Trip event in Los Angeles, where they talked strategy with seasoned business mentors, asked questions of industry giants, and met with venture capitalists and investors.
