Top 5 RV Destinations For the Holiday Season

Customers tell us they love using QuickZip sheets for their RV beds so we did the research and are excited to let you in on some great finds for the best places to visit in the holiday season!

Where will you go to Escape the Cold and Enjoy the Outdoors?

1. Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge

Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge is a resort and campground located about 30 miles east of Key West in Florida. With winter highs in the high-70's and lows in the mid-60's, this location offers an escape from the freezing temperatures across the rest of the country. As the name would imply, the resort is focused on offering a world-class fishing experience to travelers with amenities such as boat ramps, fish cleaning tables, and on-site bait and tackle shops. November and December also fall squarely into Key West's dry season, so the odds of getting great weather and catching some winter rays are maximized in the holiday season. It is important to note that this park is recovering from a damaging 2017 hurricane season, so amenities may be limited until later in December. This may be a good thing for budget-conscious travelers, as Big Pine Key is offering a 20% discount through November and most of December of 2017.

2. Roosevelt Lakeview RV Park

Overlooking Roosevelt Lake in Arizona, this RV park is located about 80 miles northeast of Phoenix. This area of Arizona is a winter outdoor enthusiast's paradise, with a lake for boating and fishing, mountains in every direction providing epic scenery and unlimited hiking options, and even ancient native ruins nearby to explore. Average highs range from 60-70 degrees in the holiday season, and those temperatures combined with abundant sunshine means you can enjoy the pristine Arizona scenery in comfort.

3. Morro Dunes RV Park

Morro Dunes RV Park is located on the coast of Central California, about 200 miles north of Los Angeles. Given its location, Morrow Dunes enjoys the mild temperatures California has to offer while still offering isolation from the crowded cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Despite its distance from the population centers of California, you will never run out of things to do: the area offers golfing, wine tasting, beaches, surfing, and hiking. At $50 per night this isn't the cheapest RV park on the list, but it certainly offers enough to make up for the price. There are also longer-term discounted rates available to longer term travelers.

4. Galveston Island State Park

Galveston Island is an island situated between mainland Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. While not as warm as the previous destinations, with average highs in the 60's and lows in the 50's during the holiday season, Galveston Island offers a unique experience with sandy beaches on its south side and a calm marsh to the north. The marsh to the north gives campers the option to canoe or kayak through the winding inlets and access to some of the best red fishing in Texas. The beaches to the south offer surf fishing and a calming place to relax and watch the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico. At $25 per night, Galveston Island State Park serves as an inexpensive place to connect with nature in the winter months.

5. Oliver Lee Memorial State Park

Located on the New Mexico side of the New Mexico/Texas border, this state park offers RV campsites with backdrops featuring classic Southwest beauty. While the hiking and scenery of the state park is wonderful in itself, this location also offers nearby access to White Sands National Monument. White Sands National Monument is a unique location where bright white gypsum sands form massive dunes, creating a landscape that cannot be found anywhere else.

This is the coldest location on the list, with daily maximum temperatures just under 60 degrees in the coldest months, but the radiant sun and dry air combine to make it very feel warm. At $18/night, this is the least expensive place to stay but probably offers the least consistent entertainment for longer-term campers. That being said, it would be a great stop on a trip through the Southwest and, if you're lucky, you might be able to see a missile launch from the nearby Air Force base!
